Women Teachers of AMU Refute Gender Bias Allegation Against VC

ALIGARH May 25: Three female teachers of the Aligarh Muslim University, in a letter written to the National Commission for Women, have termed the charges of gender discrimination against the AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah, levelled by Dr. Gulfishan Khan, Associate Professor in the Department of History, as “baseless and deplorable”.

Prof. Samina Khan, Prof. Sami Rafiq and Dr. (Mrs) Shahla Ghauri, all from the Department of English, have disagreed with Dr. Gulfishan Khan’s contention of “gender discrimination” against the Vice Chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University. Through a jointly signed statement, the above faculty members said, “We empathise with Dr (Mrs) Gulfishan Khan in her distress at not being selected to the post of professor but, politely disagree with her contention of gender discrimination against the Vice Chancellor”.

The statement further read, “Her disappointment is understandable but her charge is deplorable”. In fact a very good percentage of women have been selected during Vice Chancellorship of Lt. Gen. Shah, stressed the statement.
