AIMIM emerges as second largest party in Aurangabad, Congress, NCP virtually wiped out

New Delhi: All India Majils Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) stunned traditional “Secular Parties” Congress and NCP in Aurangabad Municipal Corporation Elections be emerging as the second largest party in the house, far ahead of Congress and NCP. In a house of 113 seats AIMIM wrested 23 seats pushing Congress to only 10 and NCP to merely 3. Others managed 19 seats. The AIMIM had lost deposit in the Bandra (East) by-polls recently, but made impressive come back in the Aurangabad. The election outcome has got the Congress and NCP stung, as the minority community shifted its preference to AIMIM and left NCP and Cong tottering. Shiv Sena won 29 and alliance party BJP just 22. The Sena-BJP alliance with 58 out of the total 113 will be able to control the civic body. (based on media reports from Bombay)
