A.M.U Teachers Will Not Welcome Mulayam Singh in Campus

The teachers of Aligarh Muslim University has decided to boycott and oppose the entry of Samajwadi Party President Mulayam Singh Yadav into the campus in the backdrop of the role of his govt during and after Muzaffarnagar communal violence, which remain unabated for a week, and claimed around hundred lives, devastated livelihoods and displaced more than 50,000 people, mostly those belonging to the minority community. The decision was taken in an emergent meeting of the Executive Committee of Aligarh Muslim University Teachers’ association (AMUTA) held on Feb 21, 2014. The teachers’ body has appealed all its members to completely boycott the programme to register their protest against his visit.
Dr. Aftab Alam, Hony. Secretary of AMUTA said that the Samajwadi Party Govt. in UP failed to respond swiftly when the news of communal violence broke out and remained a mute spectator and abandoned its duty to provide security and protection to people during the communal carnage. It is a recorded fact that a large number of people were forced to live in the relief camps, terrified and trembledwith the not even bare minimum facilities. Still today several thousands of riot victims are living in camps even after six months and are not ready to go back to their homes because of fear as perpetrators of heinous crimes committed against them are roaming freely because of the inaction on the part of the UP Govt. The UP Govt.also abdicated its responsibility for relief and rehabilitation in the aftermath of the communal violence and due to extreme cold around hundreds of children lost their lives.
According to Dr. Alam riot victims were forcefully evicted from relief camps and the govt slapped false cases of encroachment on government land against them. Mr. Mulayam Singh Yadav falsely claimed that there were no victims left in the relief camps and those staying there were instead conspirators of the Congress and BhartiyaJanata Party purposely staying there to sully the image of his party's government in Uttar Pradesh. Rubbing salt to the wounds of victims, the Principal Secretary for Home Mr. Anil Gupta in a recent statement has on record said that no children in relief camps died of cold("No one can die of cold,If people die of cold then nobody will survive in Siberia").Most shockinglyMr Mulayam Singh Yadav also opposed the Communal Violence (Prevention, Control and Rehabilitation of Victims) Bill.
Dr. Alam further stated that against this background the hosting of reception to Mulayam Singh will hurt the sentiments of riot victims in particular and Muslims of India in general. The AMUTA has also condemned the allocation of the Kennedy Hall by the AMU administration and demanded the Vice-Chancellor to immediately cancel the permission.
