Human Rights Activists Stood Against Daraconion Law UAPA

Syed Zubair Ahmad writes:
Concerned over the arbitrary arrests and prolonged detention of innocents on terrorism charges, the community leaders, activists and lawyers on Sunday have announced of launching a nation- wide movement against the draconian Unlawful Activities Activates (Prevention) Act (UAPA). At meeting held at India International Centre here, they described the UAPA as anti-people law which has become a tool in the hands of government to abuse basic rights of citizens of the country.
They decided to undertake nationwide campaign to repeal the anti-people law under the banner of People’s Movement against UAPA.
It will be a joint platform that will coordinate and organize campaign. Maulana Muhammad Wali Rahmani was made chairman of the core committee of the Movement and Kamal Farooqui and Muhammed Shafi as convener and joint convener respectively.
More than 80 prominent activists and leaders across the country participated in the discussion. Several well-known advocates from the national capital and different states who have been fighting various cases of innocents implicated in false cases also attended the meeting.
